Welcome to the Open Window Journal

I’m so glad you’re here.

Open Window Restore grew from my love of art, restoration, and beautiful interiors—and from a belief that overlooked objects can become something meaningful again.

I have always been drawn to pieces with history: an old frame, a timeworn vessel, a forgotten piece of furniture, or a simple decorative object waiting for another chapter. Through layered paint, plaster, waxes, pigments, gilding, and hand-applied patinas, I create finishes that feel collected rather than newly manufactured.

I love worn edges, subtle cracks, aged surfaces, and the quiet beauty of imperfection. My inspiration often comes from old European villas, French country homes, antique markets, and interiors that have developed their character slowly over time.

What You’ll Find Here

The Open Window Journal will be a place where I share:

  • Painting and finishing tips
  • Behind-the-scenes studio projects
  • Before-and-after transformations
  • Styling ideas for vintage and hand-finished pieces
  • Stories behind special objects
  • New shop arrivals and seasonal inspiration

I’ll also share some of the materials and techniques I use to build depth, texture, and age into my work.

The name Open Window Restore comes from a belief that has guided me through seasons of change: when God closes a door, He opens a window. What began as a creative outlet became a new path where my love of art, restoration, and beautiful interiors could come together.

Thank you for following along. I hope this journal encourages you to look at old and overlooked pieces differently—and perhaps imagine what they could become.

With gratitude,

Patricia Skelton
